Food and Beverage Supplier Brings Tasty Treats to Middle East

MRS Packaging was the first company to bring flavored popcorn to cinemas in the United Arab Emirates and continues to break new ground as it expands into other foods and leisure outlets across the Middle East. Over the last 30 years, the company has helped introduce nachos, know-how and branded display equipment to shopping malls, theme parks and cinemas throughout the territory.

“Automated systems mean there’s no time wasted when it comes to re-ordering supplies or dealing with customers—staff can see on a dashboard what they need to do.” Manu Soni, Managing Director, MRS Packaging

Supply Chain Snacking

Food for growth
The Dubai-based business has grown 300% over the last few years, supplying over 2,000 tonnes of food ingredients a month and shipping to hundreds of outlets. Popular products include hotdogs, cotton candy, waffles and toffee apples. MRS has around 200 product variations tailored to each market and language.
International challenges
Implementing NetSuite’s cloud-based ERP has simplified interactions with suppliers around the world—for instance, organising shipments of snack food and dispensing equipment from the US to Saudi Arabia or ordering disposable cups and printed packaging from Asia—while meeting all the accounting and regulatory requirements for a growing business.
Just-in-time reduces inventory
Better supply chain control eliminated stock-outs and reduced inventory by up to a third. With foods with a limited shelf-life and fluctuating demand, demand planning and managing complicated international logistics has become critical. NetSuite’s ease of customisation, for adhering to local taxation systems and languages for example, has allowed MRS to adapt.
Food trends ahead
MRS Packaging is staying ahead of new food trends, including promoting more sustainable packaging and healthy snacks. It’s preparing itself for significant growth in Saudi Arabia, where more relaxed rules mean more cinemas and leisure outlets are being developed across the area.
